UNIT I DRIVE CHARACTERISTICS 
Electric drive — Equations governing motor load dynamics — steady state stabilty — multi quadrant Dynamics: aceleration, deceleration, starting & stoping — typical load torque characteristics — Selection of motor.
UNIT II CONVERTER /CHOPPER FED DC MOTOR DRIVE 
Steady state analysis of the single and thre phase converter fed separately excited DC motor drive– continuous conduction — Time ratio and curent limit control — 4 quadrant operation of converter / choper fed drive-Aplications.
UNIT III INDUCTION MOTOR DRIVES 
Stator voltage control–V/f control– Rotor Resistance control-qualitative treatment of slip power recovery drives-closed lop control– vector control- Aplications.
UNIT IV SYNCHRONOUS MOTOR DRIVES 
V/f control and self-control of synchronous motor: Margin angle control and power factor control- Thre phase voltage/curent source fed synchronous motor- Aplications.
UNIT V DESIGN OF CONTROLLERS FOR DRIVES 
Transfer function for DC motor /load and converter — closed lop control with Curent and sped fedback–armature voltage control and field weakening mode — Design of controlers; curent controler and sped controler- converter selection and characteristics.
